The end is just the beginning

A new phase of life begins for graduates after graduation. Alumni work starts now at the IUBH.

When, after three and a half years at the latest, the IUBH students graduate, the university is proud to have supported young people on their path to their professional life. But what happens after graduation? How satisfied are graduates in retrospect with their studies and their current professional situation? Were their expectations fulfilled? Alumni work starts with these questions.

Mix of different measures

The IUBH uses various channels to stay in contact with its graduates and experience their career development, including the annual alumni meeting on the campus in Bad Honnef. This involves two days of exchange, networking and shared memories. The university also relies on graduate surveys to continuously improve its courses and services. The results are directly incorporated into the development of degree programmes.

The following results were found for the different IUBH study programmes in our current survey:

Distance learning

  • The vast majority of distance students at the IUBH are already working when they begin their studies.
  • The goal of distance-learning students is to find better opportunities on the job market and improve of their own professional situation.
  • For more than two-thirds of the respondents, their professional situation improved when they started their studies, during or at the latest at the end of their studies.

Campus studies

  • For 75% of respondents, the current job situation is better than they expected when they graduated.
  • 58% say that studying is a good foundation for their future careers.
  • 8% of respondents would choose their programme again.

Dual studies

  • More than 60% of graduates say their current job situation is better than expected at the start of their studies.
  • 85% have received a job offer from their practice partner.
  • 64% would recommend the IUBH as a university to friends, family or acquaintances.

AlumniDesire for an alumni network

IUBH graduates from all programmes have expressed the desire for an alumni network in the year prior to graduation. Alumni manager Bianca Sammer is currently pushing ahead with the implementation of this initiative. In order to promote the networking of alumni, in July 2018 she started the alumni round tables. Right on time for the first appointment in Munich, around 25 alumni from all programmes attended and got to know each other better during a cosy dinner. The focus was on networking and exchange. “The exchanges were extremely fruitful from my point of view; I got to know many interesting people and received suggestions. Overall it was a a nice evening, which we would like to repeat”, said Sammer.

In addition to personal exchanges, the IUBH regularly maintains professional contact with many alumni: They serve as guest speakers in various courses or at the university’s Open Campus Days, or support the graduation ceremonies as keynote speakers and provide awards for the best graduates.

Do you have questions or suggestions about the network? IUBH alumni are welcome to contact Bianca Sammer at or (089) 1259 996-701.
